Question 1

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Accepted Answer

Your first visit begins with a brief consultation — about 10 minutes — where Elena asks about your health history, any areas of concern, and what you're hoping to get from the session. She'll explain what to expect and answer any questions. The massage itself is then tailored to your specific needs. You'll have complete privacy to undress to your comfort level, and you'll be draped with a sheet throughout.

Question 2

What should I wear to my appointment?

Accepted Answer

You undress to your level of comfort. Most clients undress fully or to their underwear; Elena is trained in professional draping so only the area being worked is uncovered at any time. If you prefer to remain clothed for any reason, Elena can adapt the session accordingly — please just let her know. You'll be provided with fresh linens and a private space to change.

Question 3

How early should I arrive?

Accepted Answer

Please arrive 5–10 minutes before your scheduled time for your first visit (to complete intake paperwork) and 5 minutes for subsequent visits. Arriving late compresses your session time, as appointments end on schedule out of respect for the next client. If you're running significantly late, please call ahead so we can assess options.

Question 4

Is there anything I should do to prepare?

Accepted Answer

Drink water before your session — massage works the soft tissue and good hydration makes the work more effective and comfortable. Avoid heavy meals in the 2 hours prior. If you've had recent surgery or a medical procedure, bring any relevant documentation and discuss it with Elena before we begin. Light, comfortable clothing to wear after the session is recommended.

Question 5

Will the massage hurt?

Accepted Answer

Massage should not be painful, though some techniques — particularly deep tissue and myofascial work — involve a "good pain" sensation: pressure that feels intense but productive. Elena checks in frequently about pressure and asks you to communicate throughout. The goal is always to work at the edge of your comfort, not beyond it. If anything is uncomfortable, say so immediately — there is no benefit to enduring discomfort.

Question 6

Can I talk during my session?

Accepted Answer

Entirely your choice. Some clients prefer to enter a quiet, meditative state. Others find conversation therapeutic. Elena follows your lead. What matters is that you feel comfortable enough to communicate if pressure needs adjusting or if something feels particularly good or uncomfortable. The session is yours.

Question 7

What is the cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

We ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule without charge. Cancellations within 24 hours are charged 50% of the session fee. No-shows are charged in full. We understand that emergencies happen — if something unexpected occurs, please reach out as soon as possible and we'll do our best to accommodate you. Regular clients with a strong track record are extended additional flexibility.

Question 8

What payment methods do you accept?

Accepted Answer

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), cash, Venmo, and Zelle. Payment is collected at the end of your session. If purchasing a gift certificate or booking a package in advance, payment is collected at time of booking.

Question 9

Do you accept insurance?

Accepted Answer

We do not bill insurance directly, but we can provide a detailed receipt (superbill) for sessions that may be eligible for reimbursement through your HSA/FSA account or under a referral from a physician. Please check with your plan, as massage therapy coverage varies significantly.

Question 10

Where are you located and is there parking?

Accepted Answer

Golden Hands Massage is located at 123 Serenity Lane, Suite 4, in the Riverside Arts District. Free street parking is available on Serenity Lane and the adjacent side streets. There is also a public parking lot one block north on Elm Street with a 2-hour free period. We are a 4-minute walk from the Riverside light rail station.

Question 11

Are gift certificates available?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Gift certificates are available for any dollar amount or specific service and duration. They can be purchased by phone, email, or in person, and are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. We can arrange beautiful physical certificates or send a digital version via email — just let us know which you'd prefer.

Question 12

Do you offer packages or memberships?

Accepted Answer

Yes — regular massage yields the best results, and we want to make consistent care accessible. We offer a 5-session package at 10% off, and a monthly membership that includes one 60-minute session per month with additional sessions at a discounted rate. Ask Elena about current options during your visit, or contact us via phone or email.
